The local fundamental group of klt singularities

Abstract: We will discuss some recent developments in the understanding of klt singularities, particularly, the Jordan property for the local fundamental group. Then, we will discuss how a large local fundamental group reflects in the geometry of the singularity. The approach to this question gives rise to some interesting conjectures about Fano type varieties with large finite abelian automorphisms.
